Successful Community Development | Subtitle :
Abstract : This publication is unique in that it is a collection of exemplary rural community development success stories from 15 member countries of the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO). The selected projects were analysed by the respective national experts to determine the principles, concepts, approaches, and strategies that led to their success. The project covered a wide spectrum of subject areas, including micro credit in India, a women self-help group in Japan, and a vision village in Malaysia, among others. Despite the variety, several common factors contributed to their success. Among them were the active involvement and initiative of the local people, the facilitating role of the government and/or nongovernmental organisations, d special consideration for the weaker sectors of society. Analysis of these success factors will help us to scale up and/or replicate these model example elsewhere.
