Abstract : Twenty-five years is a small segment of the history of modern Singapore which began in 1819. When Singapore had independence thrust in 1965, few had confidence in the future of Singapore. But Singapore has not failed. Instead Singapore has made the grade. One important reason was experience of two years as a part of Malaysia. The frustration, the fears, the racial tensions, made the people of Singapore determined to sacrifice everything to make Singapore succeed.
