His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej acceded to the Throne on 9 June 1946, becoming the Ninth King of the Chakri Dynasty.
9 June 2006 marks the historic and most auspicious occasion of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne. The Royal Thai Government has sought royal permission to organize the celebrations of this 60th anniversary to present to His Majesty the highest homage in strict observance of royal custom. The celebrations, from 1 January to 31 December 2006, are an expression of the Thai people jubilation at his most blessed anniversary, the fifth cycle of His Majesty's reign.
