Communication Education in ASEAN | Subtitle :
Abstract : As ASEAN media liberalize and expand at the start of this millennium, the question arises as to whether there is sufficient manpower and talent to meet the demands of the new information economy. This book is the culmination of a timely study on communication needs and programmes in nine ASEAN countries: A survey, the first of its kind in Asia, was used to help answer the question. The survey showed what academics were trying to achieve and thought they had achieved, and what practitioners wanted and thought they were getting from the training institutions. A conference at the end of the study identified commonalities and differences in communication education and media needs in these countries. The study and conference proceedings (inclusive of useful recommendations for media practitioners and communication educators) published in this book reveal the need for continuing dialogue among all parties concerned with communication education, so as to narrow the gap between perceptions and expectations.
