Sustainable Ports in ASEAN | Subtitle : best practices in environmental management
Abstract : Ports are commercial, logistical and industrial hubs at the crossroads of international trade and play a key role in the economic development of countries and regions. The ASEAN region has experienced rapid economic growth in recent years and this is set to continue. Maritime transport is increasing as international trade grows. Shipping, port, transport and industrial activities are often concentrated in a relatively small area and are an integral part of cities. This leads to environmental problems like air, water and noise pollution. The lack of qualified personnel with knowledge about safety, health and environmental management for the shipping and port industry increases the risk of accidents for port workers and has a negative impact on the port environment and the surrounding area.
