Abstract :
Southeast Asia is striving towards an integrated region with a diverse and complex mix of ethnicities, cultures, religions and beliefs, as well as different political and legal systems. This report is a result of a study on regional development issues, challenges, opportunities and future directions in Southeast Asia. The study begins with abroad look at the challenges for Southeast Asia, given the general socio-economic development situation and trends including poverty and income inequality. The study then focuses on three priority areas for development, i.e. democracy and human rights, environmental sustainability and climate change, as well as gender equality and women’s role in development
